Truckers Troubles
In Uganda – The Covid19 virus and the measures taken by government to curb the spread of the virus in 2020 hit cross borders truck drivers hard. Truck drivers experienced days long delays in order to get clearance to move between countries to transport goods.
Drivers were required to test for the virus and remain in their vehicles for 14 days before proceeding on their journeys. Even with negative Covid19 results, drivers say they were discriminated against, as spreaders of the virus.
Some drivers are seen preparing meals using gas stoves in their vehicles – a hazardous act they are forced to make as they were confined to their vehicles for days on end.
